Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Colin MacMillan grew up during the early days of Canadian aviation. In the 1930's, as a young man with a pilot's license in search of employment, he moved to Northwestern Ontario where he made his home for more than thirty years. His accounts of fire detection and suppression, forestry practices, search and rescue and the introduction of fishing and hunting tourism along the North shore of Lake Superior provide a fascinating insight in the role of airplanes and those who flew them in the development of the Northwestern part of Ontario.
